Volunteer

SoleKIDS is a volunteer-led organization that is always looking for volunteers! There are several ways you can help the SoleKIDS program in La Grande.Check out our volunteer opportunities and fill out the form below to let us know how you can help to support our program.

Become a Coach

The number of kids we can coach each season is driven by the number of coaches and adults we have running with the kids, with a maximum of 50 kids per school. We would love to offer the program at all local elementary schools and are in need of coaches and assistant coaches. If you are interested in being part of this amazing program, please complete this volunteer form.

Join Us During Practice

The SoleKIDS program is here to develop children into lifelong, healthy, active and safe runners. After warm up exercises, SoleKIDS will go on adventure runs that teach them how to safely run through neighborhoods and our community. As an adult joining us for weekly practices, you will run alongside them, encourage them and help keep them safe. During the season, practices are held twice a week at all participating elementary schools. We typically need eight adult volunteers in addition to coaches at each practice. If you are interested and able to volunteer, please complete this volunteer form.

Volunteer on Race Day

It takes a team of volunteers to pull off a well-organized and successful race. Check out some of our race day volunteer opportunities below and complete this form if we can count on your support!

  • Volunteer coordinators: These wonderful people explain and provide the materials needed for the volunteer positions below.
  • Registration table volunteers: This is the first stop for runners as they pick up their race packet. Duties include assigning runners/walkers their bib number, greeting participants with smiles, answering questions/providing race information.
  • Start and Finish line volunteers: This is an opportunity to cheer the runners on as they start and finish the race! You will help position runners at the starting line and hand out finishing medals at the end. This is a huge accomplishment for these kids! Let them know how proud we are of them.
  • Course volunteers: Help keep our runners on course. Be a key player in keeping the excitement and momentum going on course. Your primary job will be to bring out a smile on our SoleKIDS as you cheer, yell and encourage them on. Standing for the length of the race will be required.
  • Buddy runners: Several of our SoleKIDS are in need of individuals willing to be their buddy runner on the race course. Any one middle school age or older are welcome to take on this fun role.
  • Water Stop volunteers: In addition to keeping runners hydrated you are also a cheerleader! With a smile and a cup of water you can offer the support the runners need to keep going. This position will fill and stack cups with water, handing them to the runners as they pass by and cleaning up the area when the last runner passes.
  • Set-up and Clean-up: In advance of the race we will need to set up the course, aid stations, registration table, etc. When this awesome 5K is over until next year, we will need volunteers to help take it all down and clean up any resulting trash.
